The Gebr. Graef GmbH & Co KG , based in Arnsberg is a German manufacturer of electrical household appliances and professional cutting machines for commercial use.

history

Company founder Hermann Graef built the first factory building with his brothers in Arnsberg in 1921. The first productions were curtain rods, wooden toys and drawing board pens. Due to the global economic crisis , the Graef brothers switched their production to chipboard boxes for drawing board pens. The crisis was overcome unscathed because there were few competitors. While the brothers were doing their military service, contract work from other companies was carried out in the factory.

On the night of May 16-17 , 1943, the Möhne Reservoir was bombed and blown up by the Allies. A large part of the Graef factory was destroyed by the water. After the death of the company founder and after the end of the war, the sons began to rebuild the company.

In the years of the economic miracle , the Graef sons began manufacturing the first cutting machines. In the mid-1960s there were no electrically powered food slicers for private households. That is why the Graef company commissioned its development department to work on a motorized all-cutter machine for private kitchens. In 1968 Graef launched the EH 170 T, the first electronic all-directional machine. The special feature of the EH 170 T was the inclined mounting of the motor to the knife so that slices do not break on the housing during the cutting process. Graef had this idea protected at the German Patent Office. In addition, the EH 170 T with 49 Phons was the quietest all-editing machine.

Another product innovation from Graef appeared in 1983, the free space cutter in a self-supporting construction. At the same time, Graef launched the diamond knife sharpener, a new sharpening technology for household and commercial use. The company was more concerned with the look of the machines. New product lines have been awarded design prizes.

In 1996 Graef began developing a fully automatic cutting machine series, which was launched on the market in 2000. In 2000 the first tilting cutter for the household sector was brought onto the market. The new device was safer than other cutting machines. In 2004 a patent was applied for the floating construction of the NAVIS N1 food slicer. In 2006 it was awarded the design prize and in 2005 the “ red dot design award ”. The floating motor body made it possible to catch the material to be cut directly under the knife.

Graef took part in the IFA in Berlin for the first time in 2009 and presented itself with a new corporate identity . The logo, print documents, cardboard packaging and website have been adapted to the new corporate identity. Other kitchen products were also presented at the IFA, such as: B. portafilter -Espressoautomaten, coffee grinders or toaster . In the household sector, innovations for the kitchen were presented at IFA 2011 in Berlin. These included the espresso makers, kettles with automatic temperature control and waffle machines.
