Gediminas Šugžda

Gediminas Šugžda (born October 4, 1968 in Telšiai , Lithuanian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Lithuanian football player.

Career

Šugžda began his career at the Lithuanian club Zalgiris Vilnius for whom he made his debut in the first division of the USSR in 1986 at the age of 17 . After a third place in 1987, he reached the UEFA Cup with his club , where he played his first game in 1988 against IFK Göteborg . He was also appointed to the U21 national team of the USSR for the first time in 1987. In 1990 Šugžda won the Baltic League with Vilnius, which was held for the first time that year . He was instrumental in the title with 13 hits. In 1991 he moved to Lokomotiv Moscow in the Wysschaya League . There he scored 2 goals in 7 games. From 1992 to 1995 Gediminas Šugžda did not play in the professional field due to an injury.

In 1992 Šugžda came to Germany and played for SG Rodheim . In 1995 he moved to the second division club FC Carl Zeiss Jena , for whom he played 13 games in the 2nd Bundesliga. In 1997 he moved to FC Bayern Hof , before joining regional league club FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt a short time later . There he immediately became a top performer and recommended himself for the Lithuanian national soccer team . On September 5, 1998, he came in 0-0 in the European Championship qualifier against Scotland for his only use in the national team. In 2000 Šugžda returned to FC Carl Zeiss Jena, where he played until the end of his career in 2003.

Šugžda was later a coach at the Upper Bavarian regional division TSV 1847 Weilheim and also runs a football school.

Since 2008, Šugžda has been the coach of the first team of the Upper Bavarian club SC Baldham-Vaterstetten.

In the 2008/09 season he was promoted to the district league with SC Baldham-Vaterstetten as a district league champion (district league 3, Munich). The 2009/10 season he finished with his team as champions of the District League East, Bavaria, and rose again, now in the District League. At the same time he coached the U17 team of SC Baldham-Vaterstetten and was also champion, unbeaten and without losing points.
