features

The spotted thorn eye is up to eight centimeters long. Its scaly body is yellowish to salmon-colored and is patterned by 15 to 20 dark brown to black transverse bands. The first three are upside down. The cross bands can be divided in the middle by a light line, the gaps are narrower than the cross bands. The underside of the animals is light. Thorn eyes have three pairs of barbels . The anal fin begins behind the end of the dorsal fin .

The distinction between the sexes is rarely possible on the somewhat more rounded body shape of the females. In addition, males are more intense in color than females. The blue-green spawn is released into the free water and adheres to the substrate.
