heard.know

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

belongs.gewusst is a popular culture quiz by the Austrian radio station Ö1 , which has been broadcast live every Sunday at 1:10 p.m. since 2003. At the end of December 2007 it was discontinued - despite numerous protests from the audience; the last broadcast took place on December 23, 2007. Since September 7, 2008, the program can be heard again at the usual slot with a new schedule.

Gehört.gewusst was first broadcast in 2003 as part of the Graz 2003 program from the Grazer Kulturcafe ( Graz was European Capital of Culture this year ). In two preliminary rounds and one final round, four candidates were asked questions exclusively from the broad field of culture every Sunday .

Game mode

Since September 2008, the preliminary round with three candidates has been held over the phone. Each candidate plays alone and has the opportunity to achieve a maximum of 19 points. However, it is permissible to have a "guessing team" sitting next to you whispering answers.

In the final , the two participants with the highest points compete against each other and initially play in two rounds according to the previously used scheme of 1, 2 and 3-point questions (see below). For the final third round of questions there are double points, with each level of difficulty being available for both candidates.

The winner qualifies for the championship round , which is held every five weeks at different venues in front of an audience.

From 2005 to 2007 the following game mode was used:

  • In the preliminary rounds , two candidates compete against each other and have to answer questions about the respective weekly topic and the cultural events of the past few days. The two winners advance to the final.
  • In the final round , the winners of the preliminary rounds compete against each other. From different question areas on the weekly topic there is an easy question (1 point), a medium (2 points) and a difficult (3 points) question. The candidates take turns choosing a question. However, there are only three questions to choose from. If a candidate has chosen the middle question, only the easy and difficult questions remain for the other candidate B.

In the previous two years, the following procedure was used:

  • In the first round, questions from the Austrian and international cultural events of the past week were asked in turn.
  • In the second round, two teams were formed, whereby the candidate with the most points from the first round can choose a partner. The teams are asked alternately questions of various types, but on the topic of the program.
  • In the third round, the candidates of the winning team from the second round competed against each other. The procedure was the same as described in the final round above.

Moderators and venues

Since the beginning of 2005, the Ö1 culture quiz has mostly been broadcast from the ORF KulturCafe (always live). However, there were also individual quiz programs at other locations (e.g. Ö1 tent at the Danube Island Festival or Mozarthaus Vienna ). The show is moderated alternately by Doris Glaser, Bernhard Fellinger, Paul Catty and Werner Löw (since October 19, 2009). Nikolaus Schauerhuber and Mirjam Jessa were no longer present as moderators. There was also a game master who monitored the correct allocation of points and made decisions in disputed cases. Overall editorial responsibility was taken by Helmut Blechner.

The quiz contained many specially produced feeds from the areas of theater (music theater and drama), literature and cabaret, visual arts and architecture, (popular) music, etc., to which the questions were linked. There were also occasional live appearances by actors and musicians for a particular quiz game.

Profits

Depending on the sponsor, there were books, CDs, cultural trips and the like to be won. In addition, each player received a graphic specially designed for the quiz and reproduced in a limited edition. In addition, there was the so-called champions price for every broadcast (concert or opera visit including overnight stay and travel or the like). In October 2007, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Ö1, a particularly attractive prize was played in a special mode in which the winners of the four previous programs competed against each other in the final: a trip to New York including a performance at the Metropolitan Opera (the also celebrates a 40th anniversary this year, namely the move to the opera house at Lincoln Center ). The 200th program was also celebrated with a special edition in which four celebrities (including Franzobel and Ostbahn-Kurti ) competed against each other.
