Secret files 2: Puritas Cordis is a point-and-click adventure game developed in Germany by Animation Arts and distributed by Koch Media / Deep Silver . It was honored with the AreaGames Award 2008 in the category Best Adventure. In terms of content, it follows on from the previous Tunguska secret file from 2006.

action

Some time has passed since the events of the first part. Meanwhile, devastating events have occurred around the world: diseases in Africa , earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in Asia as well as financial crises and unrest in South America . There were also discrepancies in the relationship between Nina Kalenkow and Max Gruber , which have since broken the relationship. While Max is trying to clear his head on an expedition in Southeast Asia , Nina starts a cruise in Hamburg . But without realizing it from the other, both get into dangerous situations.

Nina is already jostled in the harbor by an apparently persecuted person, which later makes her the target of unknown people. During the cruise she was attacked several times before the ship fell victim to a tidal wave. After she escaped the dangerous situation together with the Berlin theological scientist David Korell , both of them look for clues about the attackers in France : they are members of the Europe-wide operating sect Puritas Cordis , whose actions are apparently hidden.

At the same time, Max is exploring a temple in Indonesia with his former classmate Sam when the group is attacked. Max survives and is able to free Sam from the violence of the assassins. In addition, he finds references in the temple to Puritas Cordis, which artificially trigger a volcanic eruption here . While escaping, he falls into the hands of the sect hunters.

In the course of the plot, Nina is also captured and taken to the headquarters of Puritas Cordis together with Max. Here cult leader Pat Shelton reveals his plan to the duo: he plans an artificial environmental disaster to wipe out the world's leading elite and proclaim a state of God in the name of Puritas Cordis.

Nina and Max manage to escape captivity and destroy the sect and their headquarters. Both start a new relationship.

Technology and control

The game is played entirely with the mouse. The game screen consists of an action surface, which is framed by a black bar at the top and a gray leather-patterned bar with a gold edge.

In the upper black bar, all objects and people with whom an interaction is possible are given their names and wording. The lower bar shows in the left to middle area all the objects in the inventory as pictograms, through which you can click using the arrow symbols on the side. In addition, there are three additional buttons in the right area of the lower bar: a computer, a magnifying glass and a book. Clicking on the computer takes you to the main menu. By clicking on the magnifying glass (optionally using the space bar ) you can get small reminder and solution aids as to which objects you should still look at or use on the game surface. This is indicated briefly by means of a magnifying glass symbol. This help is optional, which means you can switch it off if you prefer to play without additional tips. By clicking on the book, you finally get to Nina's diary, in which everything that has happened in the game is written down. When an entry is made in the book, this is indicated by a typewriter sound and the lighting of the book symbol in the upper left corner of the game screen.

On the game screen itself, the play figure Nina (sometimes also Max) is sent back and forth by clicking on certain objects or people as well as undefined movement points. A stylized mouse serves as the cursor, which changes the appearance of interactable objects and subjects a little. Depending on the object, a green highlighting shows which mouse buttons can be used for which action. The respective possible action is represented by small pictograms (eye to look, hand to pick up, ...). As on the surface, interactions with objects are also possible in the inventory. You can tell from the state of the mouse pointer whether an action is possible or not. There is no need to click. Dialogues and cutscenes can be canceled with the right mouse button, the mouse pointer symbolizes this with a fast-forward symbol.

From a technical point of view, both a 16: 9 and a 4: 3 image output are supported, but with the widescreen version the inventory is hidden and can be brought out by moving the mouse over it.
