Mysterious Island is a Canadian - New Zealand television series created between 1994 and 1995 , which was inspired by Jules Verne 's novel The Mysterious Island . It comprises 22 episodes that the Canadian television broadcaster Family Channel first showed in 1995. The German first broadcast took place in 1997 on RTL II .
action
A group of refugees trying to escape the American Civil War in a hot air balloon find themselves stranded on a seemingly uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean . Waiting for a rescue ship, they manage to set up temporary accommodation. In the course of time, the stranded suspects that they are being watched and threatened by an invisible force.
