The notched buttercup ( Ranunculus crenatus ) is a species of the genus buttercup ( Ranunculus ).

features

The notched buttercup is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 4 to 10, rarely up to 20 centimeters. The plant forms a rhizome . The basal leaf blade is whole, circular and notched at the edge or weakly three-lobed at its end. Their base is heart-shaped.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

The species occurs in the eastern central Alps and the mountains of Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria and Romania. It loves acids and grows on moist lawns, in alpine rock mats and on the edge of melting snow at altitudes of 1750 to 2400 meters.

The notched buttercup is the character and name-giving species of the plant-sociological association Ranunculion crenati , which includes the southeast Dinaric snow- soil vegetation on silicate.

The notched buttercup is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens.
