Geladin (also Geladi , Galadi , Galladi ) is a place in the Warder Zone of the Somali region in Ethiopia . It is the capital of the woreda Geladin of the same name and is located near the border with Somalia .

According to the Central Statistics Agency of Ethiopia for 2005, Geladin had 10,795 inhabitants. In 1997, 99.15% of the 7,233 inhabitants were Somali , and 60 were from other ethnic groups.

The area of the woredas Geladin and Boh belongs to the Haud . The Somali living here mainly belong to the clans of Majerteen- and Dolbohanta- Darod and are nomadic cattle breeders. Until the 1960s, Geladin was, along with Warder and Bulale, one of the few water points in the area where there was water even in the dry season, and one of the few permanent settlements. However, the Geladin wells did not always provide sufficient water. A majority of the nomads therefore moved to watering holes across the border in Somalia in the dry season. In 1954 a new borehole was dug nearby. From the 1960s and even more after the drought of 1974 (see also famine in Somalia 1974 ), numerous underground water reservoirs (called birked or berkad ) were created in the villages of the region.

In 1978, even after Somalia's defeat in the Ogaden War , Geladin initially remained under the control of Somali troops, as did Mustahil , Ferfer and Shilabo .
