The yellow affodill is a bald, perennial herbaceous plant . It forms a short rhizome and fleshy roots. The stem is strong and reaches heights of 40 to 120 centimeters, is leafy and covered by the leaf sheaths. The leaves are up to 35 centimeters long and 5 millimeters wide, linear, grass-like and triangular in cross-section. The unbranched, racemose inflorescence is dense and 10 to 40 centimeters long. With a length of 2 to 3.5 centimeters, the bracts are longer than the flower stalks articulated near the center. The six bracts are yellow with a green central nerve, 2 to 2.5 inches long and briefly fused together at the base. The diameter of the almost spherical capsule fruits is a little over 1 centimeter.

The flowering period extends from March to June.

Occurrence

The yellow affodilla occurs in the central and eastern Mediterranean area on grassy rock corridors, in garrigues and in maquis. The distribution area includes Italy, the Balkan Peninsula, Turkey, the Aegean Sea, Cyprus, the Crimea, Algeria, Tunisia and the Middle East.
