The Junkerlilien ( Asphodeline ) are a genus of plants in the subfamily of the Affodill family (Asphodeloideae). They were previously assigned to the lily family (Liliaceae).

description

They are mostly perennial , herbaceous plants that develop a short, partially creeping rhizome as a persistence organ.

The yellow or white flowers , like most monocots, are threefold. The fruits are spherical, leathery capsules that contain the black, tetrahedral seeds. In contrast to the very similar genus Asphodelus , the Asphodeline species have stamens of different lengths and the leaves are also distributed over the stem.

Occurrence

The junk lilies are found in an area from the Mediterranean to Iran.
