The yellow-throated cuckoo ( Chrysococcyx flavigularis ) is an African species of cuckoo.
features
The male yellow-throated cuckoo has a yellow throat. The upper side of the plumage is shimmering dark green, the breast is white with dark brown-green sparrowth . The species is sexually dimorphic , the female does not have a yellow throat, and sparrow-spotting begins on the head. The yellow-throated cuckoo is about 19 cm tall.
distribution
The main distribution area of the yellow-throated cuckoo is in the Democratic Republic of the Congo , the Republic of the Congo , Equatorial Guinea , Gabon and Cameroon . Further sightings suggest an occurrence along the west coast of Africa in Liberia , Ghana and Togo . There are no population size estimates available, but due to the large range and frequency of the species in the Congo Basin, it is classified as not endangered.
Way of life
Preferred habitats of the yellow-throated cuckoo are evergreen rainforests , gallery forests and heavily forested savannas . The yellow-throated cuckoo often stays in the crown area, making sightings of this species difficult. The diet consists almost exclusively of caterpillars . Like all other Chrysococcyx species, it is a breeding parasite . The only known host birds are the gray-throated flycatcher ( Myioparus griseigularis ).
