The Hirschstein is a 2047 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Gurktal Alps in Austria .
To put it more precisely, it is located in the Metnitz Mountains in the municipality of Metnitz in Carinthia.
Although no longer part of the Nockberge , this mountain has a typical Nockberge shape - a grass-covered gentle hill above the tree line. Two rock formations located around 30 meters south of the highest point - called the 'Kegalan' (Carinthian for cone) by the locals - and the abundance of red deer are likely to have given this mountain its name. Due to its location in an area dominated by agriculture, forestry and especially hunting, it is accordingly not developed for tourism. There is no path marking, nor are there any bases such as huts and the like.
