Gelichter ( neuter ; althochdeutsch  lëhtar, gilëhter , uterus ', actually, place of lying' derived from lie; Transylvanian Geläfter , a di by a pair, of which medium high German  gelichtergit , member m the same family. Upper German Glifter ) is an outdated today Designation with which one would like to show the derogation towards one or more people.

The term only applies to people or things personified.

Gelichter is also used in hunting terms as a collective term for crows , magpies and jays .

Definitions

In Krünitz 's Economic Encyclopedia it is a word “which only in acc. Life, in the contemptuous understanding, and with the forewords my, yours, his etc. is used in the second ending. ”In this he contradicts the meaning of the word light derived from Gottsched .

According to Georges " Small German-Latin Concise Dictionary ", the term is also used in a contemptuous sense to people.

In his Synonymic Concise Dictionary, Eberhard elaborates on the contemptuous meaning that the term is used by name to designate “people of low disposition, low or criminal trade.” Originally it had “no nasty nonsense” because “Karl August von Weimar and Wieland said: People of our Gelichters (ie of our kind). ”He quotes from Schiller's Die Räuber “ But should he cup a squire for you who teases his peasants like cattle. . or some other master of the Gelichter - fellow! there he is in his element for you (Schiller, Räuber II, 3) ”.
