From 1801 school, later the parish hall

The listed town hall Grimmelshausen is located in the municipality of Grimmelshausen in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

During the lifetime of Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen there must have been a chapel in the village , because it was mentioned in documents as early as 1345. Georg Brückner then only described it as a ruin in his Henneberg regional studies .

In 1801 a new school was built on the foundation walls of the chapel, which is also marked by a roof turret. The school later became the community hall . There is evidence that the building was used as a kindergarten under the direction of Erna Karl from around 1935 until after 1990. After 1990 it was rebuilt and reconstructed as part of a village renewal and is now the property of the municipality. The mayor's office and a meeting room were accommodated. The meeting room is mainly used by the local volunteer fire department.
