Distribution area

The common pea bush is native to northeast Asia from Manchuria to Siberia . It copes well with cold winters and hot, dry summers. It was introduced as an ornamental plant in Europe and North America , where it is a neophyte. In Eastern Europe it occurs in societies of the Prunion fruticosae association.

use

With suitable soil and climatic conditions, the pea bush can be used as a load-bearing component in windbreak strips. In the case of pea bushes, which are offered in the garden trade as a high trunk, it is usually a refinement of the common pea bush with the dwarf pea bush .

Toxicity

The seeds were used as poultry feed in the past and as human food in times of need. Due to gastrointestinal complaints of some children, which were probably caused by the consumption of raw semen, the BfR considers this to be wrong and sees a need for further research due to a lack of reliable knowledge.
