The common banner fish ( Heniochus acuminatus ) is a species from the butterfly fish family .
The fish has a white, high-backed and laterally flattened body. It is characterized by the front part of the dorsal fin, drawn out into a long white flag, and the two black horizontal stripes. The caudal fin and the posterior soft-rayed part of the dorsal fin are yellow.
The common banner fish can reach a length of up to 25 cm. He lives alone, in pairs or in small groups in the Indo-Pacific to the Marshall Islands . It can only be found on reefs near the coast.
Banner fish feed on zooplankton.
The attractively colored common banner fish is often seen in public marine aquariums.
