The synonym "ADSIS" comes from the Latin word "adsum" and means: "to be present". It thus points to the presence of God , who also takes care of the poor and children. A special focus is the evangelization and religious instruction of young people, but the ADSIS also makes its knowledge available in parishes and pastoral centers.

Organization and expansion

Of the approximately 1,500 members, 510 are brothers and sisters (permanent members and catechumens ) who live in communities. The communities must be approved by the relevant diocesan bishops . The future brothers and sisters go through three training phases, these are the vocation period , the pre- catechumenate and the catechumenate . The other members who do not live in a community but belong to a community are so-called volunteers and employees.

Every 6 years, the General Assembly convened and held on to her will Moderator General selected. He is supported by the elected General Council , which consists of the Moderator General and 8 General Councilors, who meet for general conferences. The general conferences are conducted in the form of meetings, studies and deliberations.

The ADSIS communities run the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador , run centers for the support of ethnic minorities , develop aid programs for young people and run cooperatives for fair trade in solidarity in America and Africa .
