Mixed doubles is a party game based on the pairs principle, based on memory and other games. The game was developed in three versions in 2008 by MeterMorphosen GmbH together with the Süddeutsche Zeitung , based on a column in the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin , each consisting of two images and their names.

How to play and description

The game material of the mixed doubles consists of 72 cards, each of which forms a pair in pairs. It is played like other pairs games such as memory , in which two cards that belong together have to be found and revealed from a display of face-down cards. In contrast to memory , the pairs to be revealed do not consist of two identical cards, but of different cards with related names, which are called "mixed doubles".

At the beginning of the game, all cards are shuffled well and laid out face down on the playing surface. Beginning with the starting player, all players can turn clockwise and reveal any two cards and show them face up to all players. If a player reveals two cards that belong together, he wins this pair. The pairs consist of cards with pairs of terms such as “Rosteimer” / “Ostreimer”, “Head shot” / “Schopfkuss” or “Rumäne” / “Moräne”. When all cards have been dealt, the player with most pairs wins.

Rules for children and beginners

The game is recommended for players aged 16 and over, as individual terms and pairs are incomprehensible to children. In the rules of the game, for example, the pair of terms “power shopping” / “shower popping” is mentioned. It is therefore recommended to reduce the number of pairs of cards for children and beginners.

Party game

As an alternative to the memo game, mixed doubles can also be used as a party game or as an introductory game. The pairs are counted according to the number of participants and distributed to them, then the people try to find the person with the card who belongs to theirs.

Expenses and reception

The game mixed doubles was developed on the basis of the column of the same name in the Süddeutsche Zeitung magazine and published in 2008 in three versions by MeterMorphosen GmbH together with the Süddeutsche Zeitung . In response, numerous press reviews appeared, describing the game very positively.

Due to the success, Mixed Double 2 and Mixed Double 3 as well as a set of fridge magnets with the corresponding images were published in 2009 .
