Gene Cole

Gene Cole (actually Gerrard Eugene Cole ; born December 18, 1928 in New Lexington , Ohio ; † January 11, 2018 ) was an American sprinter whose special route was the 400-meter distance .

In 1952 he was fifth in the US championship and second in the national eliminations for the Helsinki Olympic Games .

There he reached the semi-finals in the individual competition. In the 4 x 400 meter relay , he was part of the US team that won the silver medal in 3: 04.0 min with the cast of Ollie Matson , Cole, Charles Moore and Mal Whitfield , 0.1 s behind Jamaican relay that set a world record.
