GS Group is the largest Russian developer and manufacturer of receiving systems for television.

From 1991 onwards, the GS Group has carried out systematic test and design developments as well as the manufacture of electronic equipment. Production and technical solutions are used in the satellite broadcasting projects " NTV-Plus ", " Trikolor TV ", " Platforma HD " and the like. a. m. used. The total number of subscribers using the company's reception technology in the Russian Federation is over 7 million people. As of 2007, General Satellite will be the general investor for the complex innovation project “Territory of Scientific and Technical Development - Technopolis GS” , which is being implemented in the city of Gusew .

Company history

When the company was founded in 1991, the sale and installation of TV satellite systems were its main business areas. In 1994 General Satellite signed agreements with Pace Micro Technology ( UK ) and Humax ( South Korea ) for exclusive sales of the equipment. The company became a leading supplier of satellite, cable and terrestrial television equipment, including a single supplier of large diameter antennas. By helping to shape the first Russian digital broadcasting project "NTV-Plus" from 1995 to 1997, General Satellite became the main distributor of the equipment for its program reception. In 2001, a strategic decision was made on the priority shift in corporate activity, as well as the development of knowledge-intensive directions and systems integration. A scientific production department was also created. The first receiver with its own software was developed in 2003. In February 2005, the quality and world level of the company's developments were recognized for the first time in the competition during the seventh CSTB International Fair , which was held in Moscow. The digital satellite receiver GS FTA-7001S, for example, was chosen as the winner in the category “For the best domestic (Russia, CIS and Baltic states) development in the field of distribution and subscriber equipment for satellite and cable television”. In November of the same year, the German magazine Digital Fernsehen carried out tests in which the GS TE-7010 receiver came out on top among inexpensive terrestrial receivers.

With the technical participation of the corporation, a new Russian project for satellite TV “Tricolor TV” was started in 2005. At the international trade fair CSTB-2007, the digital satellite receiver GS VA-7200 2007 was chosen as the winner in the category “For the best development”. In view of the pace of development in the field of satellite television in Russia and the planned conversion from terrestrial to digital broadcasting format by 2015, the decision was made in 2007 to build a plant for digital receivers in the city of Gusew in the Kaliningrad region. In 2008 a long-term strategy for the implementation of the investment project “Territory of Scientific and Technical Development Technopolis Gusew” was developed. General Satellite announced the first 3D broadcast in Russia and Eastern Europe on February 2nd, 2010. On April 15, the company broadcast the first live broadcast in 3D format in Russia (gala concert of the Mariinsky Theater). On May 21st, the European premiere for the satellite channel with Raumbild 3DV took place in London.

Development and production of digital receivers of all types and software for them

General Satellite carries out its own development work in the area of ​​system solutions for satellite TV: from software and motherboard production to digital content and network structure.

The department for perspective developments was founded in 2002. Among the developments - hardware platform based on STi5518 chip, software for all types of receivers, receiving system for the satellite operator "NTV-Plus" with the integrated access authorization system Viaccess as well as some models of satellite receivers and terrestrial subscriber receivers for TV. The department is currently executing the entire development cycle. The number of engineering staff - about 250 people.

Development of middleware systems for operator function control

The introduction of middleware software systems for operator function control (PASU) has become the norm in digitization worldwide: without it, it is impossible to use the full range of options available when converting from terrestrial to digital broadcast formats.

PASU developments by General Satellite, the only system of Russian development that was integrated in 2007 and tested on millions of viewers of the leading operator of satellite television distribution " Trikolor TV " (over 7 million subscribers).

Conversion of the RF to digital transmission format

According to the National Program for Switching to Digital Broadcasting, Russian television must be converted to digital broadcasting format by 2015 (Source: Federal Target Program "Development of Digital TV and Radio Broadcasting in the RF for the Years 2009-2015"). Create a broadcasting system for digital TV, including ensuring the transmission of a number of the free state channels.   • February 2, 2010 - the beginning of the first digital satellite broadcast in 3D on the territory of Russia and Eastern Europe. The channel was presented at the trade fair for radio and television transmission technology CSTB-2010 in Moscow.
  • On April 15, 2010, the first live broadcast of a ballet performance of the Mariinsky Theater in 3D took place in the world. General Satellite Corporation has announced the launch of its own European 3D television channel “3DV”, which will be filled with a wide range of content devoted to, among other things, the world of culture and travel. The performances of the Mariinsky Theater will make up a substantial part of the television channel's program. During the presentation before the press conference, excerpts from the gala concert of the Mariinsky Theater and ballet "Geselle" in the staging of the Mariinsky Theater were presented in 3D format.
  • 17-19. June 2010. During the work of the Petersburg International Economic Forum, the stand of the Committee on Modernization and Technological Development of the Economy of Russia was visited by the President of the RF DA Medvedev, where he learned about the corporation's developments in the field of 3D TV, including the first 3D Channel in Russia «3DV» were presented.

The Russian company General Satellite takes an active position in the fight against piracy . The company, which is engaged in the production of TV satellite receivers, is currently an associated member of the Association for the Protection of Encrypted Audiovisual Products and Services (AEROS). According to General Satellite, up to 25% of satellite receivers in Russia are pirate products.

The representatives of General Satellite do not consider the content itself to be the core problem of piracy, but rather the methods of accessing it, and believe that as the share of pay-TV grows, the number of such pirate products will only increase.
