General Directorate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

General directorates are mostly higher administrative authorities or institutions, especially in the railway and postal sectors , but also in the insurance sector . In the administration of the European Union there are numerous Directorates General for different areas of responsibility.

The tasks of the Directorate General have a long tradition. Before the transformation of Deutsche Telekom or Bundespost into a stock corporation, the management consisted of a general directorate, as did the Deutsche Bundesbahn and Deutsche Reichsbahn (referred to there as Reichsbahndirektion). This still applies to the Swiss Federal Railways today.

Many museums and larger libraries are also managed by a general directorate.

Example:

The general management of the railway from the 1920s still exists in Stuttgart-Mitte today . This also goes against the encroachment of the Stuttgart 21 project . The building is used by the University of Stuttgart.
