biography

The family of Geneviève Callerot, who was born in Paris in 1916, fled at the end of the First World War before the Paris guns bombarded Paris into the Périgord , where they settled in Saint-Aulaye ( Dordogne ). Her parents gave her home schooling there .

The demarcation line after the Armistice of Compiègne (1940) between the zone occupied by German troops ( zone occupée ) and the free zone ( zone libre ) ran near the family's place of residence. Together with her father and sister, she began to help people secretly transfer between Ribérac and Montpon . They helped Jews , children, and wounded British and Americans for two years , until she was arrested in October 1942 and imprisoned for three weeks.

After the war, she became a farmer in Saint-Aulaye in 1956 , where she leased a farm with her husband Jean and lived modestly. In the 1960s her cousin Jean-Charles discovered her literary talent, which she cultivated in the following decades, achieving success with Les Cinq Filles du Grand-Barrail in 1983.

On August 24, 2018, she was awarded the Legion of Honor by the Senator of the Dordogne, Gérard Fayolle , which she actually wanted to reject, but then accepted as an honor for her parents.
