Gennadi Wladimirowitsch Gudkow ( Russian Генна́дий Влади́мирович Гудко́в ; born  August 15, 1956 in Kolomna , Moscow Oblast ) is a Russian politician .

Life

Gudkow first studied at the State Pedagogical Institute in his hometown of Kolomna and then taught English for several years . 1978 to 1980 he did his army service. He then worked for the Komsomol Urban Area Committee . From 1982 he was an employee of the Soviet secret service KGB , first in Kolomna, then from 1989 in the KGB headquarters in Moscow. In 1992 he left the secret service with the rank of colonel .

After running a private security company for a few years, Gudkow ran for the Duma for the first time in the parliamentary elections in 1999 , but was narrowly defeated by the former cosmonaut German Titov . After Titov's death, he was re-elected to the Duma as a candidate for the People's Party in 2001 , since then he has been a member of the Russian parliament without interruption, and since 2007 as a member of the Just Russia party . In September 2010 he took part in the planned founding of the "Forward Russia" party, but the Ministry of Justice refused to officially register it.

After the parliamentary elections in 2011 , Gudkow took an active part in the protests against the alleged election fraud and organized demonstrations and rallies against the government. As part of an investigation into tax evasion and money laundering, the Prosecutor General Yuri Tchaika applied to the Duma in September 2012 to investigate Gudkov's professional activities. A few days later, the Duma commission responsible said that Gudkov had pursued business practices that were illegal for a parliamentarian. For example, he was involved in the management of a private construction company and, through his work as chairman of the Duma subcommittee on the legal regulation of the activities of private security services, had given security companies owned by his family members advantages. As this was incompatible with the status of a member of parliament, the Commission recommended that Parliament revoke Gudkov’s parliamentary mandate. Gudkow denied the allegations made against him. All of his activities are in accordance with applicable law. On September 14, 2012, the Duma withdrew Gudkow's parliamentary mandate by majority vote, thereby losing his political immunity .

Gudkov is married and has two sons, his son Dmitri is also a member of the Russian parliament.
