The Grünspanner (Geometrinae) are a large subfamily of the Spanner (Geometridae), which are counted among the moths within the butterflies .
features
There are many green-colored species in this group, which are somewhat unusual for butterflies. There is also a tendency within the group to reduce the frenulum . There are other common features in the male and female genitals and wing veins . However, there are also many exceptions here.
Systematics
Worldwide there are over 2,300 species within this subfamily. There are almost 40 species in Europe. In Central Europe there are 13 species in 10 genera.
