The gorse green spider ( Pseudoterpna pruinata ), also called pale green gorse heather spanner , is a butterfly ( moth ) from the spanner family (Geometridae).
features
butterfly
The wingspan of the moths is usually 25 to 34 millimeters, that of the specimens occurring in the direction of the Urals is 32 to 35 millimeters. The forewings are pale green in color and sometimes shimmer bluish or light gray. Since the green color elements fade very quickly, the moths then take on whitish or yellowish tones. Brown-orange colored specimens also appear less frequently. Two slightly darkened transverse lines on the forewings and a striking white wavy line that continues on the hind wings are characteristic. There are whitish tufts of hair on the abdomen.
Caterpillar
The caterpillars are green to yellow-green in color. They have two distinct points on the head as well as a pointed dorsal flap and a wide white side stripe.
Geographical distribution and occurrence
The distribution of the species extends through large parts of Europe (with the exception of the far north) and further east to the Caucasus , the Urals and Siberia . In the Southern Alps , it rises to 1,500 meters. It inhabits mainly dry and warm areas, including gorse heaths, steppes, semi-arid or dry grasslands, quarries and forest edges.
Way of life
The moths mostly live univoltin from June to August, a second generation can also appear in the south. They are nocturnal and fly to artificial light sources . During the day they are sometimes shooed out of the vegetation. The caterpillars prefer to feed on broom broom ( Cytisus scopariuis ), dyer's gorse ( Genista tinctoria ) or black-growing goat clover ( Cytisus nigricans ) and overwinter.
Danger
The gorse verdigris is mostly listed as not endangered on the red list of endangered species , but in Baden-Württemberg it is on the warning list.
