biography

Buckendahl was a member of the KPD in the 1920s and 1930s and from 1945 to around 1946. In the 1920s he was very active in the Red Front Fighters League (RGF) in Bremen as a board member and also chairman of the Jungsturm. He was seen in the KPD as a representative of the “right wing” and bowed to decisions of the KPD for reasons of party discipline. After 1933 he worked for the illegal KPD and was therefore sentenced by the National Socialists to a long prison term in 1936 .

In May 1945 he was a founding member of the Kampfgemeinschaft gegen den Faschismus (KGF) together with Adolf Ehlers and Hermann Wolters and together with Wolters for the KPD on the KGF board. In 1945/46 he worked as the second full-time secretary for the KPD for Bremen and north-west Germany. Like Wolters, he joined the SPD and then worked as the SPD party secretary in Bremen.

Buckendahl was for the SPD from 1951 to 1958 in the 3rd to 4th electoral term for seven years a member of the Bremen citizenship. He was temporarily a member of the board of the SPD parliamentary group. He was active in various deputations in the citizenry . When he died, Werner Schriever (SPD) took over for him.
