Georg Emanuel Ludwig Ziegler (born November 14, 1807 in Bern ; † November 25, 1867 there ; entitled to live in Bern) was a Swiss merchant and benefactor .

Life

Ziegler became a half-orphan in 1819 and was supervised by the Webern Society's orphans commission. His childless great-uncle, the wealthy iron man, iron merchant and beer brewer Georg Rudolf Isaak Jakob Ziegler bequeathed all of his fortune and the Walther & Ziegler iron shop to him . In 1858 he bought Campagne Bellevue and in 1862 he sold the iron and steel business to his partner. He now took on administrative tasks, for example as a member of the Webern orphan's commission and as a member of the management of the Burgerspital . He died in 1867 and bequeathed his fortune of 1.7 million Swiss francs to the municipality of Bern with the aim of building a hospital for poor but well-reputed residents, inmates and citizens . The Ziegler Hospital was subsequently founded in Bellevuegut .
