Georg Fey (born December 28, 1882 in Memmingen ; † October 2, 1959 there ) was a German politician and First Mayor of the Upper Swabian city ​​of Memmingen.

Life

Georg Fey was born as the 13th child of the master carpenter husband Georg and Rosalie Fey. He attended elementary school and commercial technical schools before starting an apprenticeship as a wallpaperer and decorator . In 1905 he took over his parents' wallpapering business and later expanded it into a furniture shop.

politics

Georg Fey was elected municipal representative in 1914 . Until 1930 he was a member of the Memmingen city ​​council , which elected him from 1926 to 1929 as second mayor. During the National Socialist era, Fey did not hold any public offices from 1930 to 1945.

The US occupation government appointed him acting First Mayor on May 14, 1945. The city council confirmed him on January 27, 1946 by election. In the summer of 1946 he was a member of the Bavarian State Constitutional Assembly . In the Mayor election on July 1, 1948, the politician was defeated by the competitor Lorenz Riedmiller, who ran for the SPD . Georg Fey continued to be a member of the city council as a CSU member. In the following years he held the office of the second mayor and the advisor for construction and real estate as well as economic affairs. On March 30, 1952, he faced the mayoral election again, but was again defeated. At the age of 69, he retired from local politics. In 1957 he was made an honorary citizen of his hometown.
