Georg Fortmeier
Georg Fortmeier (born June 23, 1955 in Neuhaus , today Paderborn ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been a member of the state parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia since 2010 .
Life
Fortmeier was born in Neuhaus in a family with a conservative Catholic character. After the death of his first wife, he moved to Bielefeld - Dornberg in 1980 . From 1980 to 1988 he studied law at Bielefeld University and then worked for the city of Bielefeld for a year. From 1990 to 2009 he headed the office of the Bundestag members Günter Rixe and Rainer Wend and was primarily responsible for work in the constituency. In 2009 Fortmeier was election campaign manager for the SPD in Bielefeld. Since October 15, 2009, Fortmeier has been a consultant for legal issues at the Bielefelder Falken district association.

In December 1982 Fortmeier joined the SPD . In March 1985 he took over the chairmanship of the Großdornberg - Niederdornberg local association . In 1994 he was elected to the Dornberg district council, where he was parliamentary group spokesman until 2002, and then deputy district chairman until 2009. In 1999 Fortmeier became a member of the Bielefeld City Council and took over the chairmanship of the Citizens' Committee and Auditing Committee in the first legislative period and, from 2004, the chairmanship of the Environment and Urban Development Committee. At the same time he was deputy parliamentary group spokesman from 2004 to 2009. After the municipal elections in 2009, Fortmeier took over the chairmanship of the urban development committee and became the parliamentary group spokesman.
In 2010, 2012 and 2017 he was elected as a direct candidate in the state constituency of Gütersloh I - Bielefeld III in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia . Fortmeier is chairman of the committee for economy, energy and state planning, as well as a member of the executive commission in the legal committee and the science committee of the state parliament.
Private
Fortmeier is married for the second time after the early death of his first wife and continues to live with her in Bielefeld.
