Georg Friedrich Munkert , also called Fritz Munkert , (* December 5, 1888 in Nuremberg ; † April 17, 1944 in the Brandenburg prison ) was a Nuremberg social democrat and resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life as a resistance fighter

In July 1933, two SPD border secretariats were set up and organized for Bavaria. The former Nuremberg Reichstag deputy Hans Dill took over District 1 (Northern Bavaria). Fritz Munkert and Konrad Grünbaum were his contact men. On April 4, 1934, Fritz Munkert was arrested along with other SPD comrades. In January 1935, 68 Bavarian Social Democrats were sentenced to over 57 years in prison in seven trials . 36 defendants came from Nuremberg and Fürth , including Munkert from the Nuremberg district of Loher Moos . He was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. Until 1939 he was a prisoner in the Dachau concentration camp . He was arrested again in 1943 and executed in 1944.
