Georg Geilfus

Georg Geilfus (born January 24, 1815 in Lampertheim , † February 18, 1891 in Winterthur ) was a German-Swiss revolutionary and teacher.

Life

Georg Geilfus attended grammar school in Worms and Darmstadt. In 1833 he began studying architecture at the University of Giessen and became a member of the fraternity and the Corps Palatia Giessen . In 1835 he fled from Gießen to Strasbourg because of prohibited political activities and came to Switzerland a year later , where he settled as a teacher . From 1837 to 1848 he was a secondary school teacher in Turbenthal . From 1848 to 1876 he taught history and geography at the Winterthur higher city schools. From 1856 to 1868 he was the last rector of the entire school system in Winterthur. From 1874 to 1884 Geilfus was President of the Supervisory Commission of the Technikum Winterthur . In terms of educational policy, he was committed to expanding the secondary schools in Winterthur into full-fledged high schools . He was the author of various writings on Swiss and Winterthur history.
