Georg Grebenstein (born May 16, 1910 in Leipzig ; † April 24, 1989 there ) was a German homeland researcher .

Life

Grebenstein completed an apprenticeship as a construction fitter and became a production engineer at the waterworks in Leipzig. He later headed the information and documentation center at the waterworks. In his free time he dealt with local history, first devoting himself to Probstheida and the history of the water supply in Leipzig. For this purpose, he mainly used primary sources from the Leipzig City Archives , which he has visited again and again since the 1950s. With regard to archaeological research, he worked closely with Herbert Küas .

He used the results of his own research for public lectures, for example in the urban history department of the GDR Cultural Association. He later went on to reproduce a few copies of his manuscripts. These include the following:

  • History of the water supply in the city of Leipzig , 1961
  • A contribution to the development of the urban health system and the epidemic history of the city of Leipzig , 1975
  • An investigation of the locations of the first Leipzig soft-image sign , 1981
  • The waters of Leipzig from the turn of the century to the present , 1984
  • The Püchauer mills , 1984

He had only a few of his contributions put into print. In 1954 this included the Feldensche Karte in Petermann's Geographische Mitteilungen or around 40 articles in a panoramic view , for example about the Canitz waterworks , the Grimma raft regulations, the desert areas near Thallwitz and the Großsteinberger See.
