Georg II (born January 30, 1582 in Barth ; † March 27, 1617 in Buckow near Rügenwalde ) was a non-ruling Duke of Pomerania . From 1606 to 1617 he administered the office of Rügenwalde together with his brother Bogislaw XIV .

Life

Georg belonged to the last generation of the ruling Greifenhaus in Pomerania . He was born in 1582 as the younger son of Duke Bogislaw XIII. and his first wife Klara von Braunschweig was born. After the death of their father, Georg and his brothers agreed on the division of the inheritance. According to the agreement of October 1, 1606, the eldest, Philip II (1573–1618), became the ruling Duke of Pomerania-Stettin . Franz (1577-1620) remained Protestant Bishop of Cammin . Georg received the office of Rügenwalde together with his older brother Bogislaw XIV (1580–1637) . Finally, the youngest brother Ulrich initially only received an annual pension.

In the Rügenwalde office, Georg dealt exclusively with hunting and did not take part in state affairs . When firing a rifle , he lost his left eyesight.

Duke Georg remained unmarried. He died in Buckow in 1617 in his office in Rügenwalde and was buried in the castle church in Stettin .
