Georg Kunoth (born February 17, 1863 in Bremen , † September 9, 1927 in Wiesbaden ) was a German composer , journalist , politician ( German Democratic Party ) and editor-in-chief of the Bremer Nachrichten .

biography

Kunoth was the son of a businessman and journalist. He completed secondary school in Bremen and then a commercial apprenticeship in a cotton company. At the wool import house Kulenkampff & Konitzky he worked as an assistant. In 1887 he became a reporter at the Bremer Courier and then from 1889 to 1895 local editor at the political-mercantile Handelsblatt Weser-Zeitung . From 1895 to 1899 he was local editor for the Bremer Nachrichten and from May 20, 1899 to April 4, 1927 editor-in-chief of the newspaper.

In addition, he wrote little stories, poems and pieces of music as well as war and soldier songs. Among other things, he set to music the poem Der Bremer Schlüssel by the Bremen businessman and politician Hermann Frese, which, with the melody he created, became the unofficial Bremen hymn . In 1899 he composed a fairy tale opera entitled Frau Holle . From 1900 to 1924 he was a member of the Bremen citizenship . In 1920 he joined the liberal German Democratic Party (DDP). He died in 1927 while taking a cure in Wiesbaden.
