Georg Oeggl

Georg Oeggl (born August 2, 1900 in Innsbruck , † December 17, 1954 in Vienna ) was an Austrian theater actor and opera singer ( baritone ). He achieved national fame primarily as an opera singer, but also as an interpreter of popular songs.

Life

Georg Oeggl began his career as an actor at the Exl stage in Innsbruck before completing his vocal studies with Cairone in Milan. In 1927 he made his debut in Munich.

Oeggl's most important roles were in German opera and Italian operas, especially by his favorite composer Giuseppe Verdi .

In the course of his career, in addition to the Volksoper and Vienna State Opera, he was also engaged in Innsbruck, Munich, Zurich, Coburg and Würzburg.

Oeggl died in 1954 at the height of his work. He collapsed on the way home from a rehearsal on the street. His honorary grave is in the Döblinger Friedhof in Vienna (group 26, row 3, number 10).

A street is named after him in the Bavarian municipality of Bischofswiesen .
