Georg Porepp (born October 6, 1875 in Lüneburg , † around 1942 in Berlin ) was a teacher , composer and choir director .

Life

Porepp had been employed as a primary school teacher since September 1898 , after he had passed the first teacher examination on 23 August 1895 and the second on 17 May 1898. As far as is known, Georg Porepp lived near Berlin from 1906 , where he initially lived in Charlottenburg at Suarezstraße 23, probably very close to the school where he worked as a teacher. From 1913 to 1915 he lived in Waltharistraße 18 ( Nikolassee ), from 1916 to 1942 in Berlin-Charlottenburg, Reichsstraße 8.Probably he retired as a teacher in 1937, because from 1938 he is in the address books of Berlin - different from the previous job title as "teacher" or "teacher u. Composer "- only listed with the job title" Composer ".

As a composer, Porepp is likely to have mainly dealt with choral works . On a postcard from 1914 he himself mentions an operetta work . Porepp had connections with the Berlin teachers' choir and the men's choir of the Siemens and Siemens Schuckert officials in Berlin, for which he worked as a choir director. Individual compositions are dedicated to these associations. Some printed editions of his compositions appeared around 1913 in the Hansa-Verlag and in the Musikalienhandlung des Westens, Berlin-Charlottenburg, which was probably the successor to the Virgil-Verlag, Berlin-Charlottenburg. Works by him have also been published by R. Reibenstein, Berlin-Reinickendorf , and Regina-Verlag ( O. Wrede ), Berlin-Dahlem .

In the journal Musikalische Fundgrube: Die Zeitschrift für Hausmusik , which appeared in the first half of the 1930s , a short biography of Porepp is published.

In the time of National Socialism , the Lexicon of Jews in Music was written, in which Porepp could be found.

Georg Porepp died around 1942. He is no longer mentioned in the 1943 Berlin address book.

He later studied music thoroughly with Wolf in Hamburg. 1901 director of the Siemens choir in Berlin. Author of acclaimed operettas and musical plays. Particularly gifted for the cheerful muse to which he has dedicated himself with the best of luck. P. is one of our best employees in fine light music. "
