Jakob Georg Röttinger (born December 30, 1862 in Zurich ; † February 28, 1913 there ) was a Swiss glass painter who worked in Zurich.

Life

Georg Röttinger, born in 1862, probably began to be interested in the handicrafts practiced by his father Johann Jakob Röttinger (1817–1877) at an early age . He probably also had to help with smaller jobs such as drawing lead. After the death of his father, he helped Karl Andreas Wehrlis in the glass painting workshop in Zurich, after which he moved to Nuremberg , where, in addition to working in the studio of the glass painter Hans Klaus, he attended evening school at the Königliche Kunstgewerbeschule until 1884 .

After his apprenticeship and traveling years, he took over his father's business in 1887 together with his brother Heinrich Röttinger (1866–1948). He spent the next 26 years executing large and small orders at home and abroad. His most famous works include the stained glass in the Reformed Church in Oerlikon and the no longer preserved windows in St. Theodul in Sitten and the University of Leipzig .

Georg Röttinger died on February 28, 1913 in Zurich as a result of a blood disease that he might have contracted while working frequently with lead. He left no offspring. The workshop was continued by his brother Heinrich.

The estate of the Röttinger glass painting studio has been kept in the Zurich Central Library since 2008 .
