Georg Schmitgen
Georg Schmitgen (* 1856 in Bernkastel on the Moselle ; † June 8, 1903 in Potsdam ) was a German landscape painter.
Georg Schmitgen worked as a businessman in his father's business in his youth. He then studied from April 28, 1879 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Gabriel von Hackl and Alois Gabl and from 1883 to 1891 at the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin with Eugen Bracht . After graduating, he stayed in Berlin and mainly painted Central German landscapes. In the later years he painted the German Baltic coast as well as the southern coasts of Sweden and Norway. He spent the last years of his life in Potsdam. He died at the age of 47.
