Georg Simonis

Georg Simonis (born April 3, 1943 in Strasbourg ) is a German political scientist .

Life

Georg Simonis studied political science in Berlin and Geneva from 1964 to 1969 (topic of the diploma thesis: The meaning of the “system” term for the empirical analysis of international relations ). He then was initially a tutor for international politics at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin and then a research assistant at the University of Konstanz , where he received his doctorate in 1976 on the subject of foreign policy and deterrence . In 1981 he completed his habilitation on The State in the Development Process of Peripheral Societies - The Emerging Countries in the International System .

From 1983 to 1984 Simonis was a research assistant at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Darmstadt . Then he took over the representation of a professorship for political science at the University of Duisburg until 1986 . From 1986 to 1989 he was the managing director of the project management agency for the NRW state program Man and Technology , then department head at the Institute for Work and Technology at the NRW Science Center. From 1992 Simonis was a professor at the Fernuniversität in Hagen (1992–2003: Professorship for International Politics / Comparative Politics, 2003–2005 Professorship for International Politics and System Comparison, 2006–2008: Professorship for International Conflicts and Environmental Policy).

Georg Simonis has been retired since August 2008.

Services

In addition to technology research (innovation policy, technology assessment and technology assessment), Georg Simonis' main topics included the analysis of European foreign policy . In addition, he collaborated for many years in research and teaching with the historian and political scientist Joseph Kostiner from Tel Aviv University .

At the Fernuniversität Hagen, Georg Simonis actively supported the development of political science courses. In particular, it is thanks to him that the interdisciplinary distance learning course in environmental sciences ("infernum") has been set up, which the distance university has been offering since the winter semester 2000/2001 together with the Fraunhofer Institute UMSICHT .

Georg Simonis is a member of the Working Group Technology Assessment and Assessment of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (AKTAB) and the German Association for Political Science . He is also co-editor of the textbook series Basic Politics.
