Arthur Benz

Arthur Benz (* 1954 in Wendlingen am Neckar ) is a German political scientist and professor at the TU Darmstadt .

Life

Arthur Benz studied administrative sciences at the University of Konstanz between 1974 and 1979 . After completing his studies, he worked as a research assistant at the Central Institute for Spatial Planning at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster until 1984 .

During this time he received his doctorate in September 1983 at the University of Duisburg . In April 1984 he took up a position as research assistant at the Research Institute for Public Administration at the University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer . In mid-1987 he became a university assistant there.

From April 1990 onwards, Benz was a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne. In January 1993 he qualified as a professor at the University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer and in the same year became professor for municipal and regional development policy and infrastructure planning at the University of Konstanz, Faculty of Administrative Science. In October 1995 he became professor for government and policy research at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg at the Institute for Political Science. He stayed that way until he became professor of political science at the Fernuniversität Hagen in November 1999 . In 2010 he accepted a position at the TU Darmstadt.

In 2007 Arthur Benz received the John G. Diefenbaker Award and was a visiting researcher at Carleton University Ottawa for one year. In 2014/5 he conducted research as a fellow at the Cultural Studies College at the University of Konstanz.

Arthur Benz was deputy chairman of the German Association for Political Science from 2003-2006. Between 2003 and 2004 he worked as an expert in the commission of the Bundestag and Bundesrat for the modernization of the federal system.

His main research interests are politics in multilevel systems, comparative federalism research and the change of the state .
