Georg Streiter (journalist)

Georg Streiter (born October 13, 1955 in Luxembourg ) is a German journalist and was Deputy Spokesman for the Federal Government from 2011 to 2018 and thus one of two deputies of Steffen Seibert , the head of the Federal Government's Press and Information Office . He is a grandson of the German politician Georg Streiter .

Life

After graduating from the Beethoven-Gymnasium in Bonn in 1974, Streiter served as a temporary soldier with the 330 Telecommunications Battalion in Koblenz from 1974 to 1976 . He then worked as a freelancer for the local editorial team of the Bonner Rundschau .

In 1977 he began studying political science, history and art history at the University of Bonn , which he broke off without a degree in order to become editor of the Bild newspaper in Cologne in 1979 . There he was responsible for local politics and switched to the Kölner Express in 1983 in the same function . In 1985 he went to Bonn as a parliamentary correspondent for the Express .

In 1987 he moved to the Hamburger Morgenpost in Hamburg as head of politics . In 1989 Streiter returned to Bonn and to the Express , whose parliamentary office he headed. In 1991 he moved to Stern , for whom he worked as a parliamentary correspondent in Bonn and as the head of politics in Hamburg. In 1994 Streiter became head of politics in the Hamburg central editorial office of Bild am Sonntag . From 2001 to 2004 he was chief editor at the Max magazine in Hamburg, and from 2005 to 2009 head of the politics department of the Bild newspaper , initially in the central editorial office in Hamburg and from 2007 in Berlin.

The Art Directors Club (ADC) had Streiter's headline “ We are Pope! " excellent.

From 2010 on, Streiter worked as the press spokesman for MEP Silvana Koch-Mehrin ( FDP ) in Brussels until he took over from Christoph Steegmans as deputy government spokesman in September 2011 . In 2018 he resigned as deputy government spokesman.

Streiter is widowed and has two children. He does not belong to any party.
