Life

William Heinrich Adolf Tatter was a member of the garden master and court gardener family Tatter, known since the first half of the 17th century, and a son of William Heinrich Adolf Tatter (1823-1897).

Born at the time of the Kingdom of Hanover , Georg Tatter continued the family tradition in the fifth generation in Herrenhausen near Hanover . He went through training in the Herrenhausen Gardens until after the proclamation of the German Empire , completed it in 1873 and then attended the gardening school in Potsdam in the local wildlife park until 1875 . He then went to England for two years and Vienna for about a year . Finally he was appointed court gardener at the fruit tree school in Herrenhausen.

After the Herrenhausen fruit tree school was closed in 1892, Tatter began working on the Lohne provincial estate near Isernhagen .

In 1901, the provincial garden inspector, together with the regional forestry officer Georg Quaet-Faslem , laid the 190 hectare gardens of what was then the provincial sanatorium and nursing home for the mentally ill in Lüneburg . They created both private garden spaces and commercial gardens on the site as well as a small, semi-public landscape park .
