Joachim Wolschke-Bulmahn (born April 17, 1952 ) is a German landscape planner and garden architect and lecturer at the Leibniz University of Hanover .

Life

Wolschke-Bulmahn studied land maintenance at the University of Hanover. He then worked for a short time in Bernhard David's planning office in Ahrensburg. From 1983 to 1989 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Open Space Planning and Planning-Related Sociology at the University of Hanover and from 1990 to 1991 at the University of the Arts in Berlin. Wolschke-Bulmahn received his doctorate in 1989 at the University of the Arts as Dr.-Ing. Then he was first fellow at the Research Institute of Dumbarton Oaks of Harvard University . From 1991 to 1996 he was director of the “Studies in Landscape Architecture” department. Since 1996 he has been a professor at the Leibniz University in Hanover, where he is responsible for the field of "History of Open Space Planning ".

Wolschke-Bulmahn's research focuses on the history of open space planning in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, there also on the history of National Socialism and its relationship to landscape architecture .

He is married to the former Federal Minister of Education, Edelgard Bulmahn .

Scientific offices

  • Co-founder and since 2003 chairman of the board of the "Center for Garden Art and Landscape Architecture" (CGL) in Hanover
  • Member of the international commission of experts for the redesign of the Bergen-Belsen Memorial (2000–2008)
  • Member of the Hannover Garden Region Project Advisory Board (since May 2007).
