Georg Veit (Author)

Georg Veit (born January 20, 1956 in Velen ) is a German cultural department head and writer.

Life

Georg Veit comes from a family of expellees and attended the boarding high school in Maria-Veen ( Reken / Westphalia ) for nine years . He studied history , Latin and philosophy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , where he was also musically, acting and politically active. He lived in Leer / Ostfriesland for six years and worked there as a part-time teacher until he moved back to Coesfeld in the Münsterland.

Until 2014 he taught history, Latin and philosophy at the Gymnasium Nepomucenum in Coesfeld.

He became known through his crime novels about Münsterland investigator Peter-Paul "Pepa" Pfühl. Since 1997 he has been a member of the Association of German Writers (VS). From 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the Coesfeld City Council for the Pro Coesfeld electoral community and chairman of the committee for culture, school and sport. In 2006 he co-founded the Bischofsmühle initiative in Coesfeld and in 2007 co-initiated the Coesfeld Culture Night. As head of the project group, Veit played a key role in the redesign of the Coesfeld City Museum in Walkenbrückentor (reopening on January 29, 2012). In 2013 he received the honorary award of the city of Coesfeld. Since April 2014 he has been head of the cultural department of the Münster district government, and since 2018 first chairman of the Annette von Droste Society.

Georg Veit is married and has three children.
