Georg von Strackwitz ( Polish Jerzy Strakowski ; born January 30, 1614 in Danzig ; † May 17, 1675 ibid) was a Danzig city engineer, builder and architect of fortifications .

Life

Von Strackwitz was the son of the Danzig city engineer Hans Strackwitz (also Strakowski) and his wife Anna, daughter of Georg Krüger. Like his father before, Strackwitz was trained in his subject through grants from the Danzig Council. He received money from 1630 and went to Amsterdam for several years to learn the building there. In 1635 he submitted his plans to fortify Danzig to the city council.

On December 12, 1641 von Strackwitz married Barbara, the daughter of Pietro de Neri and Barbara Heidemann. They had at least one daughter. On April 19, 1678, Aurelia Strackwitz, the "daughter of the former captain and war builder of Danzig" married the poet Johann Peter Titz , who was almost sixty at the time and had already been married twice. In addition to his work as a war engineer, he was also actively employed as a captain of the infantry.

After his death in 1675, a memorial plaque was erected in his honor in the Gdańsk Church of St. Mary .
