George Abbott (sculptor)

George Abbott (born July 18, 1803 in London ; † June 21, 1883 there ) was an English sculptor .

Abbott studied in the Royal Academy Schools from around 1839 . From 1829 to 1867 he showed his work regularly and with success at the more important exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. He presented a total of 24 of his works here, including portrait busts such as those of the High Priest Dr. Salomon Herschell (1838), statues such as those of the Duke of Wellington (1843) and occasional figurative compositions such as Alexander the Great Crossing the Granicus (1844). He also exhibited works at the Great Exhibition in 1851 . In 1862 he created figures of the Prince Consort and Wellington for the British businessman and politician William Taylor Copeland for mass production in "Parian" dimensions.
