George Charles Bingham, 8th Earl of Lucan (born September 21, 1967 , London , England ) is a British peer . He held the courtesy title of Lord Bingham until February 3, 2016 .

He is the only son of Richard John Bingham, 7th Earl of Lucan and his wife Veronica Mary Duncan. He has two sisters, Lady Frances Bingham (1964) and Lady Camilla Bloch QC (1970). They are descendants of George Bingham, 3rd Earl of Lucan , who is known for his participation in the Crimean War .

Life

Bingham attended Eton College and studied at Trinity Hall College at Cambridge University . He worked in merchant banking and worked for Dresdner Kleinwort Benson until 1999 . He then worked for Bailey Coates Asset Management, a public fund company that generated $ 2 billion . He left the company in 2004. Since then he has worked as a freelancer for various finance companies in the Middle East and North Africa.

Bingham's father Richard Bingham, 7th Earl of Lucan , disappeared in November 1974 after the murder of Sandra Rivett, the family's nanny. Almost 20 years after the disappearance, the High Court of Justice allowed a death certificate to be issued in order to settle the estate. In 1998, Bingham requested affidavits from the entire family (with the exception of his mother) and the Metropolitan Police to have his father pronounced dead for the House of Lords . However, the Lord Chancellor , Lord Irvine of Lairg , was unable to officially admit Bingham without a death certificate . In October 2015, Bingham filed for a death certificate for his father under the Presumption of Death Act 2013 .

Bingham doesn't believe his father was responsible for Sandra Rivett's death.

On February 3, 2016, a High Court judge allowed a death certificate to be issued, allowing Bingham to inherit the title of Earl of Lucan .

Bingham married Anne-Sofie Foghsgaard, the daughter of Danish entrepreneur Lars Foghsgaard , on January 18, 2016 .
