George Botsford

George Botsford (born February 24, 1874 in Sioux Falls , South Dakota , † February 11, 1949 in New York City ) was an American composer of ragtimes and other musical genres.

biography

Botsford was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1874 and grew up in Iowa . His first composition was The Katy Flyer - Cake Walk , published in Centerville in 1899 . His most famous rag is the Black and White Rag , published in 1908.

Botsford went to New York City and became a Tin Pan Alley composer. Around 1914 to 1915 he experimented with the “mini opera”, which was to be sung by three or four people; but the idea was not well received. After a long career in a variety of music, he died in New York City in 1949.
