George Engleheart
George Engleheart (born October 1752 in Kew , † 1829 in Blackheath ) was a miniature painter and was thus in direct competition with Richard Cosway , one of the most influential English painters of the 18th century.
Life
Engleheart learned his trade under George Barret and later under Joshua Reynolds . He began his work in 1773 with an exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts .
When he finished his work in 1813, he left an order book in which he had precisely listed all his orders - 4,853 miniatures in 39 years. So he painted King George III alone . twenty five times. His works are usually signed with "E" or "GE".
He died at Blackheath in 1829 and was buried at Kew.
