Axel Holck

Axel Nikolaj Holck (born January 30, 1863 in Copenhagen ; died September 26, 1940 there ) was a Danish art historian and statistician .

Life

Holck was the son of the clergyman Johan Christopher Holck (1824-1899) and his wife Thyga Elisabeth Christine Thomine (nee Thaning, 1826-1913). He studied since 1882 in the course of Bokkenheuser and in 1888 became a qualified economist (Cand. Polit.). He then worked in the State Statistical Office from 1896 , and became head of the department in 1897. In 1901 he gave the work Dansk statistiks historie 1800-1850. out. More writings followed. In 1903 he became district manager in Hjørring and in 1906 in Maribo .

From 1902 to 1903 he was editor of the Tidsskrift for Industri , for which he also wrote articles until 1906. In addition, he has been involved in art history since his youth and studied the older foreign painters on his travels. As an art historian, he wrote articles for Salmonsens Konversationsleksikon (author abbreviation A. Hk.) Or wrote articles about art for various magazines. From 1908 he was chairman of the Lolland-Falster Abbey Museum in Maribo and in 1912 he founded the Historical Society of Lolland-Falster, of which he became chairman. In 1939 he resigned from office and returned to Copenhagen.

  • Holck became a Knight of Dannebrog in 1910 and Dannebrogsman in 1927.
  • In 1901 Axel Hou made an etching for Holck.
  • In 1927 a bust was set up in front of the Lolland-Falsters monastery museum (Aage Erhard).

family

Holck was married to Ida Charlotte (nee Thorlakson, May 1, 1872 - January 24, 1950) since September 27, 1893. She was the daughter of the dentist Grimur Carl Christian Thorlakson (1846-1915) and his wife Elisabeth Weide (nee Engholm, 1850-1940). The couple had

  • a daughter Tove (born March 2, 1895), who married the lawyer Jens Christian Christiansen on May 19, 1921. From this marriage the children Axel Holck Christiansen (born July 21, 1922) and Jørgen Holck Cristiansen (born April 7, 1924).
  • a son Johan Christopher Holck (born June 23, 1897– March 13, 1916)

Holck was buried in Ordrup Cemetery (Ordrup Kirkegård) in Copenhagen.
